Good Housekeeping: GET HOOKED ON D.I.Y

GOOD HOUSEKEEPING & 3M PHILIPPINES INVITE YOU TO GET HOOKED ON D.I.Y.

When you need some wall-hanging done at home, you think your only option is to make holes with a nail or a drill. It’s expensive, it ruins the paintjob, and you need someone else to do it for you.

Here’s the good news: Good Housekeeping Magazine, in cooperation with 3M Philippines, invites you to Get Hooked on DIY, a series of home decorating and organization workshops that will help you decorate and organize your home space using a simple and effective wall-hanging tool.

As an all-around home and décor expert, Good Housekeeping will show moms, dads, and even college dormers and singles how to tidy up and beautify their homes, condos, or dorm rooms using Command™ Damage-Free Hanging Solutions from 3M. These hooks are very easy to install, and equally easy to remove without leaving a trace.

So on April 13, Saturday, head on over to SM Megamall Activity Center at the Lower Ground Floor, Mega A Building and have fun learning about the various ways you can use Command™ Hooks and products. Workshop booths open at 10AM until 8PM. Program proper begins at 3PM.

Watch out for the other legs of GET HOOKED ON DIY! Like Good Housekeeping on Facebook at http://facebook.com/goodhousekeeping.ph and visit http://www.command.com.ph for more details.

Earning Money while Having Quality Time with Your Family

Nothing can surpass the beauty of motherhood.

Breathing new life into this world is such a wonderful experience despite the drastic physical changes and labor pains that all moms go through during and after pregnancy. However, a mother's responsibilities do not end at changing diapers and waking up late at night when the little ones cry. You can add to that a growing list of financial responsibilities that you must never overlook until the kids are all grown up.

Most mothers have to give up work, so they can have enough time for recovery and mommy duties. Truth be told, it can get a little overwhelming sometimes because there are other things that you want to accomplish for yourselves. It seems impossible to drop everything and go back to what you love doing, but the chance of not being able to fulfill the demands of your roles as mothers is really high.

A flexible work setting without setting a foot outside our front doors – that’s what most moms need nowadays. In this setup, moms can juggle work, household chores, mommy duties, and quality time with the whole family, which is something most regular employees cannot afford to do.

What are your options? You can earn money at home through freelance jobs or with small business ventures that can maximize any of your skills, talents or experiences.

Small Business Ventures
There are a lot of housewives who have converted into being mom-entrepreneurs. You can venture into a traditional or online business that you already know. It can be baked goodies, clothing and accessories, or imported bargains. You can also get a franchise of a food cart which is very popular among young entrepreneurs nowadays.

Feel free to scrutinize and learn more about different business opportunities that you can do at home and require very little capital.

Freelance Job Opportunities
If you don't have the resources to start your own business, there are a lot of freelance job opportunities to choose from – be it a project from your former employer or from a freelance job post online. Choosing to work from home gives any individual, most importantly, stay-at-home parents, to be productive and to earn an income without having to worry about what's happening at home.

Some of the most popular freelance opportunities for moms involve jobs for writers, designers, communication associates, online English tutors, and editors. Filipino moms who are proficient in English are at an advantage because most countries that outsource writing, editing, and online tutorials prefer Filipinos since we are known for being the world's number one country for Business English.

Some Downsides to Consider
Just like any regular job or full-time employment, having your own business or being a freelancer also has some disadvantages. Take note that you need to process all the documents on your own. You will never earn paid time-off credits or leaves. You need to file your own tax returns and contributions for SSS, PhilHealth, and PAGIBIG. It is also important to note that you will not get an HMO coverage which most regular employees get from their companies. On top of that, you can also anticipate delays in payments, especially when your clients or bosses are based abroad.

Final Tips to Note
·         Always negotiate your rate.
·         Never take projects which are way below the industry rate.
·         Document everything – from emails to invoices and payments.
·         Give a list of Philippine Holidays to your client so you can make necessary arrangements.

Whether you choose to start your own business or take freelance work, always evaluate the situation. What are your responsibilities? How much time can you give? At the end of the day, you need to make sure that everything that works out well in your family and in your individual life.

GOD is in the small stuff and it all matters - The book.

I've been reading books lately. I am move with one in particular. It moved me in all aspect of my life.
I've learned to appreciate the things I used to ignore and I only realized that those small things are the things that shaped those big ones in my life. I admire how the book was written. The authors started from GOD, then YOU, FAMILY, and the CHILDREN. To us Moms, this book is perfect. I have listed down the small stuff that was written on the book ( just a sneak peek) in the FAMILY chapter.

GOD is in the small stuff and it all matters. By Bruce & Stan

  • Establish family traditions and faithfully keep them.
  • Be as considerate with your family as you are with your friends.
  • Be as courteous to your family as you are to strangers.
  • Friendship can fade. Families are forever.
  • Prefer the love of your family over the praise of acquaintances.
  • There are few nuts (and squirrels) in every family tree.
  • Stay in touch with family members. It's easy to ignore those closest to you.
  • Call your mother---you know how she worries.
  • Send cards and notes to your grandparents on special occasions, and be sure to include current family pictures.
  • Eat at least one meal a day together as a family
  • Develop a recreational activity your family can do together, and then enjoy it regularly.

You will learn a lot from this book trust me.

Youthful and headstrong Yaya

Cautioning: This is a tirade post about our young Yaya.

I woke up right on time just to verify that Ayvan will be appropriately dealt with since his not really sipag Yaya can't be allowed to sit unbothered to do such thing. I attempted my best to conceal my bothering on her on the grounds that, well, the way that she is not really sipag (doesn't clean the washroom, leaving Ayvan's utilized diaper all around, dozes at whatever point I rest, including her garments to our own when washing them, generally needs to go out) and dependably holds her phone at whatever point there's an open door, she doesn't know how to do things on her own - actually encouraging my son alone. Mind you, the extent that I know, Ayvan is the second child she'd Yaya.

This morn, when I weigh her in her room she alert and cellphon-ing. She didn't significantly try to thump on our avenue to get Ayvan or set up his breakfast. I am so pissed, yet obviously, I need to quiet myself down. I would prefer not to snap out and start to shout at her, which, I don't do naman yet imagine a scenario where I can't help it na. I don't need that and likely the exact opposite thing I'll do.

The previous evening, I arrived home late due to the overwhelming activity in Edsa. I'm close when I got her content. Ayvan regurgitated daw in the wake of drinking his milk. I was concerned, I called her and discovered that she encouraged him on the couch without a pad on his head to marginally incline him. I got horrendously distraught. In the event that I was the main traveler in the van that time, I could have condemned her to death, yet once more, I cooled myself and let her know what to do. Envision? As of not long ago she doesn't know how to isn't that right? At the point when each freakin' time we nurture my son I let her know to verify he is not resting level. Goodness. I have all her katarayan pass in light of the fact that I thought she'll change over the long haul. She's been with us for 3 months and every once in a while I let her know the stuff we need her to do, always helping her to remember her obligation extraordinarily on Ayvan. She's simply deteriorating and amazing.

They say, youthful Yayas are better in light of the fact that they're trainable, yet they're resolute as well. That being said, some of them, in any event.

On the off chance that my child can talk, he'll presumably say this...

I know there's no good in me getting irritated every time she'll do wrong and I should grant her more time, but when it comes to my boy l will not compromise.

I've spoken to my Mom today and we're planning to let the Yaya go by the end of this month.

Ayvan should be treated well at all times. I pay her for that and I'm not finding any satisfaction at all. So this is it. I am very patient but enough is enough.

We will be Yaya-less for the next month, but I'm sure we'll get a better one shortly.

Ayvan's day and what I've learned today as a parent.

Yay, it's another weekend again and you know just what this day means. Its AYVAN'S day in our household.

He wakes up ahead of time just almost every day to poop. And today was one of those almost. I was irritated because it's the only day of the whole week that I am allowed to wake up late. He was already up around 6AM, I was still too sleepy but I can't start back to a deep sleep because there he was, screaming his heart out in front of me. My sleepiness did not get a chance on my screaming son, so I gave up.

I fed him a cereal for breakfast and tucked him for his morning snooze. I prepared pancake for my breaky since Dadi is not yet home. We pretty much do things together during weekends and its beginning to become a habit, which is good for us.

While he was sleeping, I fixed our lunch, Pork Nilaga. I had fun cooking it because for the first time I included corn and cardaba instead of gabi. It was again another success. Yay.

When Ayvan was up, I bath him and let him play. An hour later he needed his milk and wants to be carried so I did and he's surprisingly heavier ha.

He at present knows to pick his nose. I just hope he would not find a booger yet, or else he will curiously eat it. He was also having fun pulling my hair. Ugh.

Being a first time mom is overwhelming and I can't seem to track where the time went. I can't compare motherhood/parenting to anything. Every time that I am with my son, everything is a learning process. I learn something new every week from him.

What I've learned today? He taught me how to accept myself as a mother that I am and not what I think I should be. I definitely, 100 %, would love to spend a solid day with him every damn day, but because I'm working I can't. Yes, it's probably the toll of being a working Mom, but that doesn't make me less a parent than other mothers who stay at home. It's learning to let go of the things that I can't control.

So there, I hope to learn more soon.

How about you though? What does your child teach you about yourself? I would definitely want to know more, so if you can comment them it will be a huge help for a newbie Mom like me.
